Course Overview:

This course provides a practical introduction to creating, managing and publishing AI agents using Microsoft Copilot and Copilot Studio. It is designed to help learners understand how agents work, when to use the Lite experience in Microsoft 365 Copilot versus the full Copilot Studio experience and how to build agents that are grounded in business knowledge, follow structured conversation flows and take meaningful actions.

 This course is intended for business users, trainers, digital champions, power users and solution makers who want to learn how to create, customise and manage AI agents using Microsoft 365 Copilot and Copilot Studio.

Course Objectives:

Course Content:

  • Explain what AI agents are and describe how they differ from general AI chat experiences
  • Identify the differences between the Microsoft 365 Copilot Lite experience and the full Copilot Studio experience
  • Choose the most appropriate agent-building approach based on audience, use case, scope, and governance needs
  • Create simple agents using natural language in Microsoft 365 Copilot
  • Use built-in agents such as Researcher and Analyst for structured tasks
  • Create and configure agents in Copilot Studio using environments, solutions, and the maker interface
  • Add and manage knowledge sources such as SharePoint, websites, uploaded documents, and Dataverse
  • Explain how knowledge grounding works and apply best practices for reliable agent responses
  • Create and manage topics to control conversation flow and support structured user interactions
  • Use trigger phrases, questions, variables, and conditions to build guided topic-based conversations
  • Add tools and actions that allow agents to perform tasks such as sending emails or logging information
  • Test and refine agent behaviour to improve accuracy, usability, and consistency
  • Publish and share agents through appropriate channels such as Microsoft Teams or web
  • Recognise key considerations for security, permissions, and governance when deploying agents in business environments

Prerequisites:

 A basic working knowledge of Microsoft 365. Some familiarity with SharePoint, OneDrive or document-based information sources. A general understanding of business processes such as internal support, training, HR, sales or operations workflows.

Technical Requirements and Licencing

Learners should have:

  • A Microsoft 365 work or school account
  • Access to a modern web browser such as Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome
  • Access to Microsoft 365 Copilot and Copilot Studio licence
  • Access to a Developer or Sandbox environment in which to build the Agent and, where applicable, permission to create or work within a Power Platform solution
  • Permission to use connectors such as Outlook and Excel Online (Business) for tool-based activities
